AuditWorthy

The proof of good work usually lives in six places. It should live in one.

Most shops do good work and keep decent records. The trouble starts when someone outside the shop asks to see them. A customer wants your last three corrective actions; a registrar wants the same three arranged by clause; an insurer wants training records; an inspector wants them today. Each visitor asks a slightly different question about the same facts, and the answer gets assembled by hand, again.

The moments that cost the most

The week before the audit.

The system is real, but the evidence is spread across a binder, a shared drive, some email threads and one person's memory. Pulling it together is a project every year.

The customer questionnaire.

A supplier form with hundreds of questions, filled in by hand, then sent again with the next bid package because nobody checks the portal.

The training question.

"Who signed off that this person can run that machine, and when?" The answer exists. Finding it takes a phone call and a trip to the other building.

The job that came in under.

Your software probably tracks labour and cost well. What is harder is seeing quoted, actual and the reason for the gap on one screen, with the quality record for that same job beside it.

The rule nobody remembers.

Much of what a shop does "because ISO requires it" was decided by the shop itself years ago. When the reason is lost, the rule can be neither defended nor improved.

One set of facts about how you work. Five kinds of visitor. One place to answer from. Our job is to make sure nothing in your own system is ever news to you.

The record is made at the moment of the work, by the person doing it, in plain words. The proof becomes a by-product of running the shop well, not a separate project with a deadline.

You don't have to switch anything to find out.

Start with the product that answers the question you are being asked this quarter: your ISO 9001 quality system, built with you, room by room. Keep the systems you already trust. Bring your people, your parts and your last audit's findings, invite your team, and give your auditor a link to see what one connected record looks like.

No payment. We'll only email you about this.
